Baden Academy announces appointment of new CEO
December 19, 2013
Baden Academy Charter School Board President, Sal Aloe, today announced the appointment of Sewickley resident Lauren Bensink to serve as the school’s CEO effective January 6 when Stephen Catanzarite will step down.
“The board members and I could not be more fortunate to have the luxury of handing the reins from one stellar individual to another,” Aloe said. “Our students will remain in capable hands.”
Bensink’s talents combine proven leadership skills, a wealth of elementary education experience, and a love of the arts, a blend Aloe said is well suited to furthering Baden Academy Charter School’s mission.
“Beyond Lauren’s impressive resume, anyone who has observed her in action in the classroom or working one-on-one with students can see right away that she is a natural,” Aloe said. “Parents, teachers and students alike will benefit from her expertise and passion.”
Since the inception of Baden Academy Charter School, Aloe said the board has been blessed with a wealth of talent.
“We are certainly bittersweet about Steve Catanzarite’s departure, but we knew from the outset that he would not serve over the long haul, and was best suited to making sure Baden Academy was launched and got off to a good start,” Aloe said. “He did everything we asked him to do to make sure the school was on solid footing; Baden’s score of 89.1 on the school performance profiles is a prime example.”
“He leaves us with a legacy on which Ms. Bensink can build,” Aloe said.
“I know I have big shoes to fill,” Bensink said, “but because Mr. Catanzarite has done an exemplary job over the past year and a half, mine will be that much easier. I’m eager to begin building on the school’s mission when the new year begins.”
Bensink holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, a Master’s in Strategic Leadership, and has earned principal certification for grades K-12.
Among her varied experience, she currently serves as Director of Elementary Education at the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School, has taught third grade at East Springfield Elementary School, studied at Parsons School of Design in New York, was a docent at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and served on the Education Department staff for Simon & Schuster Publishing.
